Calls

Enhancing the work carried out since 2012

Calls

PLAS@PAR finances by various types of grants, high quality and innovative research projects within the community. These fundings intend to reach two goals: (i) promote the cohesion of the various research groups within the Research Federation by proposing inter-team, inter-unit and inter-disciplines projects (ii) open calls for projects that do not exist within member institutions or organizations of the Research Federation. Calls are piloted by the Board.

We launch calls for projects such as :

  • Equipment and innovative starting projects

  • Master scholarships in partnership with a foreign laboratory

  • Grants for hosting international researchers (invitations)

  • PhD and Post-doctoral projects

Calls are published on this website and communicated to all members of the Federation through our newsletter, check your emails!

For conferences, workshops and thematic schools, projects can be submitted all year round.

Calendar

Return of applications: August 17, 2020
Commitment of expenditure: from September 15, 2020

Context

The support from PLAS@PAR is given to new collaborative research projects. Are eligible:

  • Requests for small equipment and running cost.

  • Support to experiments on large-scale international research facilities.

Is excluded from this call:

  • Requests for mission.

For each project, the grant request should be between 5 000€ and 10 000€ and expenses should all be made by the end of 2020.

For evaluation of the grant request, in addition to scientific quality of the project (including, particularly, international significance, objectives and foreseen results), the following criteria will be considered:

  • Relevance of the project with respect to PLAS@PAR objectives

  • Collaboration between teams within PLAS@PAR

  • Positioning at national and international levels

  • Feasibility of the project

  • Feasibility to spend the budget before Nov. 2020

  • Additional funding or co-funding

  • Leverage effect (through ANR, ERC, industry)

DEADLINE: return date for proposals is August 17, 2020 - 18h00 (mailto: conseil.plasapar@listes.upmc.fr)

The Board of PLAS@PAR will then rank each project and select the funded projects for 2020.

Follow up of the funded project

The support of PLAS@PAR must be mentioned in any oral or written scientific communication. Also, the mention: « This work has been done with the financial support of the Research Federation PLAS@PAR - Plasma In Paris » should clearly appear in all communications.

A final report, including a financial statement and a scientific description will be due by the PI by the end of 2020.

Federation’s Comprehensive strategy

The subject must be relevant to one of the 4 research lines:

  1. Fundamental processes in plasmas

Plasma dynamics (dynamo, turbulence, shocks, magnetic reconnection, transport mechanisms, instabilities, accretion, ejection), microscopic processes in plasmas (ionization, collisions and interaction processes, opacities), plasmas under extreme conditions (relativistic effects, quantum effects, electron-positron pair plasmas, matter under extreme pressure) and plasma chemistry.

  1. Applications

Nuclear fusion, plasmas for biology, medicine, archeology, materials and the environment.

  1. Numerical studies

Development of open codes to describe plasma physics, algorithmic developments, development of common data analysis tools.

  1. innovative experiences and observations

Space instrumentation for astrophysical plasma observations, laboratory astrophysics experiments for high intensity and high energy lasers, new sources of plasma, spectroscopy at very high spatial and temporal resolution.

The thematic field should cover one of the 5 research themes:

  1. Turbulence, energy dissipation and transport phenomena

  2. Reconnection, shocks and instabilities: energy conversion in a plasma

  3. Matter in extreme condition

  4. Collisional and reactive plasmas

  5. Interaction of plasmas with solids, liquids and living matter

Application form

The application, written in French or English, should include the items listed below (2 pages max. excluding the relative mandatory quote(s)).

  • Title of the project

  • Researchers and laboratories involved

  • The project description and objectives

  • Relevant publications (optional)

  • The expected goals and schedules

  • Amount of support requested and intended use (imperatively attach quotes which must include a delivery date - before November 15, 2020)

Calendar

  •     Return of applications: June 4, 2021
  •     Possibility of expenditure commitment: July to mid-November 2021

Context

PLAS@PAR's support is granted to new collaborative research projects. Are eligible:

  •     Request for small equipment (material) and operating costs.
  •     Support for experiments at large-scale international research facilities.

Excluded from this call for tenders: Mission request.

For each project, the grant request must not exceed € 10,000 and all expenses must be made by the end of 2021.

For the evaluation of the grant application, in addition to the scientific quality of the project (including, in particular, the international importance, the objectives and the expected results), the following criteria will be taken into account:

  •     Relevance of the project in relation to the objectives of PLAS@PAR
  •     Collaboration between teams within PLAS@PAR
  •     Positioning at national and international levels
  •     Project feasibility
  •     Possibility to spend the budget before November 2021
